After Charlotte was born we found out that she swallowed some amniotic fluid, which gave her pneumonia. She was then transferred to the NICU for treatment. She developed a pneumonothorax in each of her lungs. (Collapsed lung, or pneumothorax, is the collection of air in the space around the lungs. This buildup of air puts pressure on the lung, so it cannot expand as much as it normally does when you take a breath) Doctors put in a chest tube on one side to help, but it was not working very well. Charlotte lungs would not re-inflate and the doctors feared that it might require surgery. On a Sunday the doctors were contemplating surgery, they decided to wait to the morning and evaluate her condition. That night Walter and Gary gave Charlotte a blessing. I went to the hospital first thing in the morning to see how she was doing. And there were 3 doctors in her room trying to figure out how she recovered so fast. The holes that where in her lungs had closed almost 70% over night. The doctors said that that was unheard of. They could not believe her recovery. The only thing they could think of is that she must have had a blessing. They said, "there is no other way she could have healed that fast!" I am so grateful for the Priesthood! Anways, Charlotte was only in the NICU for 10 days! She is doing wonderful, and we just love our new addition!
